Ironbridge Rafting
Jump to Rafting in Wales |Rafting in Scotland
From the UK’s premier outdoor activity provider take a rafting trip with a difference in the heart of England, In November 1777, Abraham Darby III began designing and erecting 378 tons of cast iron, to build a bridge in the Shropshire gorge, on the banks of the River Severn. The bridge was completed in 1779. Now you will have the chance to see it from a very different angle. As well as the world famous bridge the trip takes in one of the most beautiful river valleys in the UK. This is not just your usual rafting trip but one with a difference:
After a short safety brief from our qualified instructors you’ll be on the water experiencing the river and its beauty
The trip begins at the Museum of the Gorge, where there is opportunity to have a bit of fun splashing around or to just drift downstream if you prefer. It is then on to, and under the Iron bridge itself for an alternative view, where you will be let into a local secret.!! We continue through the wooded gorge and under the newest bridge, the Freebridge. The trip then takes you through the rapids at Jackfield, which have played host to many canoeing events and in the past have been a training ground for top international and Olympic canoeists. You will have a chance to stop and play in the rapids if you like a bit more of a thrill. After the excitement of the rapids it is on past Jackfield Tile Museum and next under the Memorial Bridge. We then pass the Tar Tunnel, the Hay Incline Plane and the famous Coalport China Works. The journey finally ends at The Woodbridge public house, the last pub in the Ironbridge Gorge.
