Luxury Tipi Holidays in the Ceiriog Valley
If you want the ultimate get away from it all weekend, why not book our 18ft luxury Native American Tipi. Based on the edge of a trout lake, high above the Ceiriog Valley, the Tipi offers a comfortable and very special alternative to a hotel. With a double futon and two single camping mats it can sleep up to 4 people easily. Authentic Indian blankets and sheepskin rugs ensure a cosy atmosphere. You will be assured of absolute privacy, be able to catch your own trout for dinner and enjoy unparalleled views over Pandy Rocks and the Ceiriog Valley. As we grow a lot of our own food you can buy organic vegetables picked fresh to order on-site (in season). Add in a few activities, or a private Survival instructor and make it n amazing break to remember
The trout lake is also a fantastic place for a cooling dip, or you can book a canoeing session with a qualified coach. Other local activities on offer are archery (on-site), pony trekking and quad biking right next door, white water rafting and all the other activities advertised on this site. (all activities incur an extra charge).
Cooking takes place on an open log fire beside the Tipi, and a small barbecue inside the Tipi allows you to boil a kettle for tea in the morning or sit round a warm fire at night without the need to go out if it is raining. (Locally produced, ethically harvested charcoal is available to purchase on-site).
Sorry, we can only take children over 6 due to the nature of the site. Please note the lake is about 5 foot deep and children and non-swimmers should wear life jackets on and around it.
Frequently asked Questions
What do we need to bring ?
You will need to bring your own sleeping bags and pillows as bedding is not provided, but the mattresses and rugs are provided. If you require sleeping bags there are some available for purchase from the site manager. You will also need towels and soap but please do not bring a lot of chemically harmful toiletries as the site is pristine and we would like to keep it that way.
Bring your own torches (wind up ones are best as they do not harm the environment) and extra batteries if necessary. It is very dark at nights as there is virtually no light pollution, which allows you to really appreciate the stars on clear nights. You may even be lucky enough to see a shooting star.
All cooking equipment is provided, and basics like salt and pepper, but bring all the food you need. There is a shop a few miles down the valley which carries a good range of food and basics.
We provide matches and firelighters (although you may like to try using a flint fire starter) and some wood. You will be provided with a saw to cut up extra wood. There is always plenty to do in gathering food, keeping the fire going and feeding the animals so you should not get bored.
You will need to bring your own fishing rods if you want to catch fish. Fly rods are best for this lake. Please see the site manager if you wish to fish, and only catch what you can eat. Please bring all other necessary activity equipment such as life jackets, wetsuits, wellies, walking gear, Wet Weather gear, sunblock and hats for hot days, binoculars and cameras, bird books and local wildlife books, maps
May we bring our dog ?
Sorry, but no pets are allowed on site. We are in a sheep farming area and anyone bringing a dog will be asked to remove it immediately. No cats, budgies, or lizards either.
Where do we get water from ?
Drinking water is provided in large water carriers which are delivered by quad bike. There is water for washing available from a local supply but this water should not be drunk as it is straight from a spring and has not been treated.
Are there toilet and showers provided ?
We have a compost toilet situated a short distance from the Tipi. In the spirit of environmentally conscious living we believe in reducing waste and pollution. This is one way of meeting those ideals. You will find it easy to use and there are no nasty smells to put up with. The shower is a solar heated shower which gives a warm shower rather than a hot one (unless you think ahead and heat up some water over a fire to put in the barrel). This is back to basics with a vengeance, but hey no-ones looking. Why not forget the mirrors too and go au-naturelle.
Is there electricity on-site ?
Not at this time. We do have a hydro system which may be connected up in the future and we would be delighted to explain how this works for any budding off-gridders, but right now we do not have facilities for recharging phones etc. Why not pick up a solar charger before you come? We also do not have mobile phone reception on-site so don't bother with all those broadband gadgets. Why not chill out and enjoy being unreachable. Those desperate for reception can always climb the hill behind the site in search of it.
How much parking is available ?
We have parking for up to four visitors cars, but if you really want to save the planet why not car-share. You may bring your bikes as there are plenty of good trails around and you can reach the local pub in 15 minutes.
