We have our own section of year- round white water on the River Dee
Unlike other venues we’re not dependant upon dam releases to produce challenging water conditions. We have engineered our rapids to provide play waves and stopper as well as mini rapids for those who are just starting out.

When Can You Go?
Canoeing takes place year round. The water levels are often higher on the winter, but this is by no means the rule. Book in advance but call before your booking to check. We will always strive to meet agreed bookings but reserve the right to change the date or venue if safety reasons require it.Who Can Go?
You can do this from 8 years onwards. Our maximum age so far is 78, can you beat the record?
How Long Does the Activity Last?
When does the excitement end? Most sessions last about two hours but the memories last forever. We can run session of any length, please let us know your requirements when booking.
After a safety briefing from our qualified instructors, beginners can start straight away on either one of our sit-on-top kayaks or standard Kayaks, in a safe still water environment before being introduce to the White Water.
More experienced paddlers will have their session tailored to their skill level and individual requirements.
We offer a range of kayak and canoe courses, including Swift Water Technician course, Slalom Canoeing, Playboat and Freestyle coaching, as well as British Canoe Union training and qualification courses.
How Many Can Take Part?
Groups of 1-12+.
You Need to Know:
All safety equipment is included, but bring your swimming costume and training shoes or boots. If you are doing more than one water- based activity, remember to bring additional dry clothing - and don’t forget your towel! For those of your who are experienced paddlers - need we say more? If this is your first experience - then expect to get very wet.
How Much will it cost?
Sessions include all personal kit (Wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets, spray decks and paddles as well as our top of the range boats. All prices per person.
Basic instruction on either flat or moving water £50 per person (Minimum of two people)

You can now book your canoe and kayak hire with Bala Watersports on Bala Lake at White Water Active, and receive a 10% discount off both the boat hire and instruction.
If you have never been in a boat before this is the ideal way to start canoeing. Gain the flat water skills you need at the only licenced Canoe and Kayak hire venue on Bala Lake, with experienced and friendly instructors. All kit is provided if you are booking instructors.

We are currently offering a special rate of 10% off canoeing / kayaking instruction and a reduced rate for boat hire of £5 half day, £7.50 full day (include all personal kit, including wetsuit, buoyancy aids, helmets and spray decks for only £10 half day / £15 full day. Boats and kit is free when under instruction from our qualified and experienced members of staff.
Your safety
Recent events highlight the importance of checking your canoeing provider is properly licenced and insured. Rogue traders may not be covered by liability insurance should you get into difficulties. Boat hire and instruction providers who do not have licences to operate on a body of water do not provide safety cover such as is available from licenced venues such as Bala Watersports and White Water Active. Insist on seeing their insurance certificates, licencing documents (where appropriate) and risk assesments. Any one providing instruction to children (without parents present must be AALA licenced) Boat hire providers have a duty of care towards you, and must strive to ensure you are capable of paddling in the prevailing conditions.If in doubt book an instructor. Rivers and lakes may be more dangerous than they first seem. Remember - safety first.

River Dee, Llangollen - Only permitted boat hire and instruction provider is White Water Active (by agreement with Private Land Owners)
Legalities
Please ensure you only access water (Rivers or Lakes) at designated launch sites. Where there are restrictions you may be prosecuted for trespass if you ignore them. Please follow the countryside code when out on the water as you would do on the land.
